18th Century Rustic French Louis XVI Period End Table

18th Century Rustic French Louis XVI Period End Table is a classic example of rural artisans following the lead of the courts for style inspiration, yet being limited by the tools available to them.  This example, rendered from old-growth fruitwood, features a tailored design, with half-bullnose edge on the plank top, a simply molded apron all around, and four turned legs with a slight taper connected with a classic "H" stretcher below.  Double pegged mortise & tenon joinery is evident, as are the dovetails that were used to construct the drawer which is fitted with a single brass pull.  The drawer bottom was replaced in the last 75 years or so.
