The bold turnings and ebonized accents give this 19th century Dutch oak table its distinctive character. Its design draws on the Jacobean tradition, with four vase-shaped legs joined by a geometric stretcher that brings the same decorative attention to the base as to the tabletop. Bands of ebonized wood encircle the legs, and small black accents punctuate the square corner blocks, defining the oak carving with the finish so often used as trim in Dutch furniture.
A single drawer is set beneath the rectangular top, with shaped and carved brackets framing the open space below. The broad surface and useful drawer allow the table to serve as an end table, an occasional writing table, or a small table beside a chair. From its carved apron to its turned feet, the craftsmanship remains visible from every angle.
