19th Century French Louis XVI Neoclassical Giltwood Marble Top Oval End Table represents the essence of the Belle Epoque, a particularly prosperous time in world history that saw the proliferation of finely crafted furniture created by an equally impressive proliferation of some of the best cabinetmakers and artisans in human history!  This example, rendered by obviously Parisienne ebenistes, features a classical design inspired by ancient Greece and Rome, with an oval top inset with a luxuriously veined Breccia marble featuring subtle earth tones dominated by a neutral gray.  The weathered gold finish only adds to the allure, and accentuates the carved detail that starts on the apron completely surrounding the framework above, designed with a pierce-carved Greek coin motif punctuated by rosettes on the plinth blocks that connect to the elegant tapered and spiral fluted legs, which also feature acanthus plume capitals, rosettes below and upturned lotus blossoms on the feet.  At the center of each of the "longer" side aprons, a framed rose spray was carved in full relief to provide a focal point.  Fine egg & dart trim encircles the lower apron, and finally the lower legs are connected with a brace of bowed stretchers centered with a dome style rosette so provide the perfect finishing touch!
