Directoire design brought a new clarity to French interiors, replacing the ornament of the preceding era with disciplined lines inspired by classical antiquity. This refined pair of antique end tables beautifully expresses that tradition through dark mahogany, tapered legs and precisely placed brass accents.
Each table is fitted with three drawers framed in brass and centered with simple brass knobs. Slender tapered legs terminate in brass feet, while the pierced brass galleries lend a delicate architectural finish to the Carrara marble tops. Subtle veining in the marble provides a graceful contrast to the rich mahogany below.
Finished on all four sides, the tables retain a poised, tailored character from every angle. Their unusual narrow proportions, matched construction and surviving pair make them especially appealing examples of early 20th-century French Directoire style.
