Created in the tradition of the celebrated French bouillotte table, this Louis XVI style example combines fine mahogany, pure white Carrara marble and carefully executed brass detailing. The circular marble top is framed by a pierced brass gallery, a distinctive feature associated with this historic French form.
The rounded apron is fitted with a small drawer and pullout surfaces that provide additional space when needed. Slender tapered and fluted legs continue the neoclassical design and terminate in brass sabots, giving the table a beautifully finished appearance from every angle.
Bouillotte tables originated in late 18th century France for the fashionable card game of the same name. Their circular form, marble tops, brass galleries, drawers and pullout slides made them useful well beyond the card room. They soon became favored furnishings for salons, libraries and private apartments, where they served beside chairs, sofas and beds.
This table retains the recognizable features that made the bouillotte form so enduring. Its compact scale allows it to serve as an end table, bedside table, lamp table or occasional table while bringing the history and elegance of French Louis XVI design into the room.
