A finely crafted French Louis XVI style end table in solid mahogany, crowned with beautifully veined Carrara marble and enclosed by an original pierced brass gallery. Two paneled drawers retain their original brass rosette pulls. Fluted corner posts, tapered legs, brass feet and a lower shelf complete the elegant neoclassical composition.
Louis XVI design grew from the eighteenth-century revival of classical Greek and Roman forms, favoring symmetry, fluting, straight architectural lines and restrained ornament. French cabinetmakers continued to recreate this celebrated style throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, preserving its place in refined interiors and collections of antique French furniture.
During the mid-twentieth century, Maison Jansen and other leading French design houses renewed the Louis XVI tradition through sophisticated furniture combining mahogany, marble and brass. This table reflects that enduring influence through its disciplined proportions, classical detailing and beautifully coordinated materials. Its compact form is well suited beside a sofa, between chairs or as an elegant bedside table.
