Mid-19th Century Napoleon III Period Octagonal Marble Top Table ~ Pedestal represents one of the more unusual items we've carried over the last three decades!  Hand-crafted from fine French walnut, it was created from sumptuous hand-select French walnut and rouge marble.  Featuring a boldly molded octagonal top with inset marble surface, the molding of the top framework transitions to an intriguing variation of dentil molding around the perimeter that includes repeating elongated diamond forms.  The eight facets of the apron below are highly carved and fitted with a webbing of spindle windows that is a feat of craftsmanship unto itself!  The carvings on the cornerposts are very stylized yet naturalistic in design, and extend well below the spindle windows terminating in turned pendant finials, with cared and contoured corbels bridging the gaps between the cornerposts.  Four of the cornerposts transition into the finely turned legs which extend down to a rounded lower shelf fitted with matching marble for an additional carefree and elegant surface, with the entire affair supported by flared, scrolled legs.
