A beautiful example of early 19th century English cabinetmaking, this antique linen press combines refined simplicity, remarkable storage and the warmth that only an original finish can provide. The restrained paneled facade allows the richly figured walnut to take center stage, its flowing grain enlivened by a deep, naturally aged patina.
The tall paneled doors open fully to reveal four original pullout linen shelves, each removable to allow the interior to be adapted as needed. The survival of these fitted shelves is an especially desirable feature, preserving both the history and practical purpose of the piece.
Below, four spacious drawers offer an exceptional amount of additional storage. Original mahogany knobs inset with mother of pearl introduce a subtle note of distinction, while the molded cornice, balanced proportions and gently shaped feet reflect the quiet elegance of English furniture from this period.
Originally made for the careful organization of household linens, its generous interior makes it remarkably versatile for modern living. With the shelves removed, the upper cabinet could serve as an entertainment cabinet, while its combination of open interior space and deep drawers also makes it beautifully suited for clothing, linens, serving pieces or household collections.
Impressive in scale yet beautifully restrained in design, it offers the quality, presence and versatility to become an important piece in a bedroom, living room, dining room or family room.
