19th Century French Louis XVI Walnut Armoire is a masterpiece of the sculptor's art, as well as the furniture maker's craft!  Created with classical architecture and rectilinear lines, it boasts a bold crown with upturned molding serving as a backdrop for a magnificent full relief sculpture of an olive branch wreath with sprays, held together with a piece of ribbon and a small medallion.  Egg & dart trim directly underneath the centerpiece leads the eye down to the crown embellishment that traverses the entire width and is a variation on intertwined Greek coin merged with reeded fluting.  A different interpretation of egg & dart trim separates the crown from the doors fitted with full length beveled mirrors which transition down to more olive branches below enveloping a roundel with rosette and ribbon flourishes on the bottom panels.  The doors are flanked with full length tapered and fluted columns with acanthus corbels above and vase forms below.  Spiral ribbon trim separates the doors from the base below which has been magnificently scrolled and lavished with foliate and floral motifs in full relief.  The doors open to reveal birds' eye maple veneering inside, protecting the silvering on the mirror and facing the full width as well as the two half-width drawers within.  The half drawers are nestled on a shelf, with three independent shelves above, all fully adjustable with ingenious notch brackets in the corners.  As exquisite as it is, it remains a very functional addition to the room, as well!
