19th Century French Neoclassical Armoire in Walnut, Signed E. Rataboul of Marseille represents a rare opportunity for some lucky family to enjoy the epitome of quality from one of France's finest furniture makers!  Utilizing what experts consider the finest furniture wood to ever come from the Continent of Europe, the artisans created a neoclassical casework with rectilinear form, sized to fit a wide variety of floor plans.  The majestic crown molding includes a tier of dentil trim, and overlooks a bonnet elegantly adorned with foliate and bordering motifs with a subtle arch that matches the contour of the pair of doors below.  The carved detail continues down the center stile which is attached to the left door allowing unfettered access to the interior and making it a good candidate for almost any purpose.  The doors reflect and understated refinement with a Florentine style shell, crest and foliate motifs enhanced with cross hatching.  Each door is hung with a brace of generously sized brass barrel hinges and fitted with intricately cast key guards.  Rounded cornerposts provide a framework for the doors and are themselves lavished with exquisitely carved shell and foliate designs.  The contoured apron is also carved to match, with a brace of scrolled legs carved with acanthus plume and escargot providing support.  Doors open wide to reveal an all-original interior with adjustable shelves and interior drawers, making this instant family heirloom as useful as it is gorgeous to behold.  Hand-crafted with extraordinary skill and pride by E. Rataboul of Marseille, France.
