Belle Epoque French Walnut Serpentine Armoire from Paris ca.1900 is an exhilarating example of the finest Old World craftsmanship by a noted maker ~ Maison Lalande Devouge Raus & Cie, located at 54 Rue de Charenton in Paris. The firm produced magnificent works of the cabinetmaker's art at the end of the 19th century and into the first decade or two of the 20th century. Utilizing exquisite hand-select French walnut, the artisans crafted an intricately contoured architecture that includes a bold arched crown, undulating apron and serpentine sides. Bold molding with carved detail abounds in the design, but is most notable at the very peak, where an heraldic crest overlooks the entire piece, lavished with carved shell, floral and foliates. The single full length door is fitted with a full mirror, and the frame is meticulously molded and carved with the bevel of the glass following each intricacy. Door opens wide on brass barrel hinges to reveal a spacious interior with fully adjustable shelf and interior drawer.
