Grand 19th Century French Louis XVI Triple Armoire from Paris is a stunning example hailing from what most experts agree is the Mecca of the furniture crafting industry! Sculpted from select French walnut that is today too expensive to even consider using for such a large piece, it exudes a timeless elegance that only such extremely fine wood can produce. The design is an impressive expression of the classical movement that has been revived over and over again for thousands of years, dating back to the ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. Here the artisans have designed a spectacular center section with a bold arch that is slightly stepped forward from the flanking integral cabinets. Tying the three segments together is a richly sculpted laurel bundle motif in wonderful three dimensional configuration, centered at the very top with a subtle yet elegant acanthus plume. Multiple tiers of bold molding provide a base for the carved embellishment, and reign over the casework below. At the center, a full length beveled mirror has been fitted into the center door following the arched contours above, with a more subtle arch on the base surrounding a relief carving of a floral spray. On both sides of the mirror appear the opulently carved side cabinet doors, festooned with convex oval medallions lavished with floral baskets brimming with fresh flowers and enhanced with ribbon and floral sprays, along with finely executed molding detail. On each corner, including the stepped-out corners of the center mirror appear full length pilasters carved with laurel bundles to match the crown above. Below is a tailored base with raised panels, egg & dart trim and rosettes under the pilasters, supported by turned legs. All three doors are hung with exterior mounted brass barrel hinges for easy access, and open wide to reveal a completely original interior, with a multitude of adjustable shelves and a large interior drawer, making this magnificent example as functional as it is beautiful to behold! Note the special attention paid to the interior finishing, crafted as only the master artisans of Paris can produce!
