19th Century French Charles X Mahogany Marble Top Buffet represents a period in French history where a staid, tailored look was popular with the court, and remains so a century and a half later due to the style's ability to work with most any type of decor and look. This example, rendered from exotic imported mahogany, features mitered corners to soften the framework, and broad, subtly molded panels which enhance the sheer natural beauty of the highly desirable wood. Brass quarter round trim was also used to highlight the drawer facades, along with ring pulls with embossed guards, and matching key guards on the cabinet door below, which open to reveal surprisingly capacious storage. To top it all off, finely veined gray marble cut with the same mitered corners for a carefree elegant serving and display surface. At some point in the early 20th century legs were added to raise the surface to a more contemporary height.
