19th Century French Louis XV Painted Marble Top Serpentine Buffet
Location: Baton Rouge
19th Century French Louis XV Painted Marble Top Serpentine Buffet is a marvel of artistry in craftsmanship! The subtle serpentine sides merge into the rounded cornerposts, which are connected below by a subtly undulating apron. Two mirror image cabinet doors create the entire facade above the apron, and the top is finished with 3 cm richly veined marble that has been contoured and beveled to follow the casework below. The carvings depict stylized shell and foliate motifs, a hallmark of the Rococo style so favored by the court. The carvings also enhance the subtle raised paneling trimmed with fine molded detail, and are painted a pastel shade of gray for just the right amount of contrast against the beige painted background. Even the interior is fully painted, with a surprising pair of interior drawers behind the cabinets, and the drawers themselves have been carved and fitted with an embellishment along the bottom edge, which creates a special touch just for pride of ownership!
