This refined 19th century Louis XIV Liégeois oak display buffet ~ credenza is distinguished by its classical discipline and the confident craftsmanship for which the Liège region is so admired. The façade is anchored by a central glazed display door, framed by richly detailed cabinetry that feels both architectural and quietly romantic.
Particular attention belongs to the side doors: gracefully galbé, with a subtle outward curve that is far more than decorative—an impressive feat of joinery and carving that requires precision to execute well. Each door is built with raised panels and then carved in a symmetrical Neoclassical vocabulary, featuring rosettes, foliate scrollwork, and acanthus leaves that lend depth and refinement without excess.
The original hardware and finely detailed escutcheons remain in place, reinforcing the piece’s integrity. Below, the apron is exceptionally ornamented with gadrooning and a floral centerpiece, while the corners are mitered and carved into the design for a finished, tailored look. Fluted feet complete the composition with classical clarity.
Elegant, beautifully ornamented, and unmistakably Liégeois, this buffet offers the best of both worlds: a lovely display area at center with practical storage behind the side doors.
