A refined expression of late 19th century Louis XVI revival craftsmanship, this walnut display buffet was created by Edouard Kint of Gent, Belgium — a master cabinetmaker working in a city long celebrated for its artistic and decorative heritage. The design reflects the disciplined symmetry and neoclassical elegance that define the Louis XVI tradition, interpreted with the richness and precision characteristic of fine Flemish workmanship.
Handcrafted from select walnut, the case presents a graceful step-front silhouette softened by rounded sides that create architectural interest and balance. The façade is thoughtfully adorned with carved foliate scrollwork across the frieze, fluted detailing, rosettes, and sculptural urns in full relief centered upon parquet-paneled doors. Laurel garlands and ribbon motifs introduce movement while preserving the measured harmony of the overall composition.
Recessed quarter-round display cabinets flank the central doors, each fitted with curved beveled glass and interior shelving, lending depth and refinement to the profile. Bronze bale pulls and key guards provide subtle contrast against the warmth of the walnut, complementing the hand-carved ornament throughout. Tapered and fluted legs support the case with classical poise.
Crowning the buffet is a beautifully veined Arabescato marble top distinguished by elegant linear veining in soft taupe tones — a subtle blend of beige and gray that flows organically across a creamy ground. The double-beveled edge is precisely contoured to follow the curves of the casework below, reinforcing the unity between stone and wood while enhancing the piece’s refined presence.
An impressive and beautifully executed statement of Louis XVI revival design, uniting noble material, masterful carving, and the enduring craftsmanship of Gent’s distinguished furniture tradition.
