Antique French Louis XVI Demilune Mahogany Marble Top Buffet is an extraordinary example of the finest traditions in French cabinet-making from just after the turn of the 20th century!  First, a graceful adaptation of the demilune form was used for the casework, creating rounded side cabinets and a footprint that is most accommodating to the traffic plan of a room.  Next, fine mahogany veneering was applied in a cross-matched pattern to create visual interest on all the door panels, and vertically oriented on the wraparound apron below.  Then, olive wood was used to inlay bordering, a fluting effect across the top tier which conceals a centered drawer, and lastly a Romanesque laurel swag inlaid onto each main cabinet door.  The interior is finished out in lighter colored wood for intriguing contrast, and note the fully mortised lockworks which is a hallmark of the finer furniture houses.  Next, the metalsmith was called to apply beaded trim along the base, lotus blossoms in bronze to cap the feet, and exquisite bronze corbels on each pilaster separating the main doors from the rounded side doors.  Bronze key guards add a nice touch.  Finally the stone mason crafted an exquisitely veined slab of marble to follow the rounded contours with sections above the pilasters, then apply a cove bevel to complete the master work!
