Antique French Louis XVI Maple Marquetry Marble Top Buffet is a wonderfully unusual find!  Crafted from finely figured maple with "curly" grain effects, it is deeper than most providing capacious storage in a relatively compact two door sideboard.  The luxuriously veined marble top with beveled edge provides the ideal serving and display surface.  The sides are of a tailored design, relying on the sheer natural beauty of the wood to make a visual statement from side angles.  The drawer tier just under the marble continues the tailored design effect, with finely framed drawer fronts accented with cast brass bale pulls.  Rounded, fluted corners frame the doors below which exude a radical departure from the restrained design of the rest of the casework.  Spiral rope trim frames the two raised panels cut with an archer's bow form on top, lavished with relief carvings of flowers and foliate designs.  Underneath the raised panel itself has been lavished with sunburst marquetry using the curly maple wood grain to create a fantastic visual effect.  In between the doors is a sculptural study of intertwined rings, musical instruments, flowers and foliage all bound by flowing ribbon executed in astounding full relief.  The base and legs below return back to the tailored effect to complete the truly unique design.
