Antique Liegoise Louis XIV Grand Buffet in Stripped Oak is a magnificent example of the incredible craftsmanship that is a hallmark of the storied region around Liege, now situated in eastern Belgium.  Long before there was even a country named Belgium, Liege has been world-renowned for being a center excelling in the arts and industry, and to this day is still home to many widely recognized industry leaders.  This example, rendered from dense, old-growth indigenous white oak, was crafted on a grand scale, almost eight feet in width and over two feet in depth, although the bowed facade dramatically drops back towards the wall on each side, making the design much more traffic-friendly than the raw dimensions would suggest.  Even the sides are exquisitely designed and executed, exhibiting more skill than most fronts of furniture pieces.  A multi-tiered beveled top follows the complex contour of the casework below, and overlooks four drawers, the centermost being serpentine, and all of which open to reveal compartmentalized storage ideal for flatware and small items.  Drawers feature a refined hand-carved shell and foliate design centered with a cast brass key guard.  The four generously sized doors below, the centermost again being of serpentine form, are amazing in their captivating carved detail with intricately designed arched frameworks embellished in full relief with acanthus plumes, crests, shell, foliate and floral motifs.  There's even a stylized fleur de lys at the bottom of each panel design.  Doors are hung with brass hinges matching the brass key guards.  Massive scrolled pediment style feet interconnected with carved apron sections provide extra sturdy support.
