Grand Antique French Louis XVI Mahogany Buffet with Carrara Marble Top was crafted on a larger scale than normal for a grand home!  The original complete set is still available as of this writing; see Related Products below left.  The buffet was designed to fulfill three distinct purposes ~ to provide an elegant and remarkably carefree serving and display surface, to provide voluminous storage for china, flatware and crystal, and finally to look truly stunning!  Succeeding on all fronts, this piece measures eight and a half feet in width, and even though the maximum depth at the center is 22 inches, the generously rounded sides mitigate the impact on the traffic patterns in the room.  The luxuriously veined white Carrara marble is the number one choice for designers as its tones blend with almost any decor or color scheme, providing contrast to the exquisite natural tones of the exotic imported mahogany on the entire facade below, exhibited as bookmatched grain patterns known as "flame" mahogany or "crotch" mahogany.  Five drawers traverse the full width, including drawers fitted into the rounded sides.  One drawer retains its original felt insert for flatware.  The drawers are defined by meticulously detailed cast brass egg & dart molding creating a framework surrounding the luxuriously cast laurel ring pulls set on rosette guards.  The five doors below follow the same theme, with the outermost and center door adding inset corners adorned with cast brass rosette medallions.  The back cornerposts feature a tailored fluting, while the cornerposts that define the step-front center section are rounded, fluted, and reeded with cast brass ormolu mounts below, and exquisite neoclassical acanthus leaf corbel style mounts above.  A tailored base molding surrounds the facade, under which four elegantly tapered and fluted legs with brass rings and foot tips complete the exterior look.  Inside one finds capacious storage throughout the design, with the aforementioned added feature in one drawer as well as brass railing around the edge on the right side designed to keep stemware in place.
A magnificent find on a magnificent scale!
