Mid-19th Century French Empire Cherrywood Buffet ~ Credenza was hand-crafted during the Napoleon III period in celebration of the original period at the beginning of the 19th century overseen by Napoleon and Josephine.  For this reason the age is called the Second Empire.  The tailored, rectilinear style was inspired by ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman architecture, and features a pair of half-columns on each corner creating a framework, with each adorned with cast brass capitals and pediments for maximum visual appeal.  Cast rosettes with rope ring pulls are in brass as well, appearing on the side-by side drawers.  With the exception of the hand-chamfered solid pine backing, the entire piece is constructed of old-growth cherry wood, which has been allowed to naturally age producing an unmistakable patina and visual allure that only old fruitwoods can attain.  Solid planks on top, on the panels, and framing members, and posts for the corners ensure this beauty will be a family favorite for many more decades to come!
