19th Century French Louis XVI Neoclassical Rosewood Marble Top Semainier ~ Tall Chest is not a concept exclusive to French craftsmen, but arguably executed by the French better than all the rest!  Hand-crafted from exotic imported rosewood, this design was fitted with seven drawers to literally provide a drawer for every day of the week, hence the name derived from the French word for week.  Topped with subtly veined Cararra marble to perfectly contrast against the rich ebony and oxblood red coloration of the wood, it was designed with a rectilinear architecture inspired by ancient Greek and Roman concepts.  The top drawer is almost concealed in the designed, flanked by louvered plinth blocks and framed above and below with bold molding detail.  The plinths appear above the almost full-length fluted and turned columns which serve as corner posts for the design, with two more louvered plinths in the apron structure below, finished out with a bold base and finely turned urn-form feet.  The remaining six drawers are spacious on the inside, and feature tailored molding on the outside designed to enhance the sheer natural beauty of the wood, accentuated solely by classically cast bronze key guards.  An excellent way to provide lots of storage with a minimal footprint on the floor, and provide it in style!
