Antique French Directoire Mahogany Commode

Antique French Directoire Mahogany Commode exudes the understated elegance for which the style is world renowned!  Crafted from exotic mahogany imported from the Americas during the last century, it features niche style corners fitted with full tapered and fluted columns for a classical effect that soften the impact on the traffic pattern in the room.  Three sizeable full width drawers are each accessed with squared brass bale pulls.  Brass key guards accent the center of each drawer.  Four elegantly tapered turned legs provide support, each fitted with finely turned brass feet.  Each side is inlaid with two toned bordering for a nice accent, creating visual appeal from all angles.  The overall design is quite restrained, as is the style's dictum, allowing it to showcase the sheer natural beauty of the wood.  Note the chamfered panels in the back with pegged mortise & tenon joinery ~ hallmarks of the finest furniture crafters, in this case Emmanuel Rivaud of Pithiviers, a small community south of Paris.
