Requiring the talents of four master artisans, Antique French Louis XV Bombe Marquetry Marble Top Commodes such as this example needed a talented menuisier to create the complex naturalistic, curved form of the casework utilizing time-honored techniques including mortise & tenon and dovetail joinery.  Next, the ebeniste would apply marquetry in a purely artistic form using different species of wood to create a composition inlaid into the background wood which in this case is exotic imported mahogany.  Next, the metalsmith would apply bronze mounts custom-made for this particular piece with the all-important edge guard down the entire length of the front corners providing adornment as well as protection.  Lastly the stonemason contoured and beveled a solid slab of Sienna marble for the perfect crown to the collaborative achievement!  With such an acquisition, one not only acquires a thing a beauty, but a carefree and elegant display surface and surprising storage within the spacious drawers.
