19th Century Country French Flip-Top Game Table ~ Console is a splendid example of ingenious design, marvelous craftsmanship, and superb materials to create a one-of-a-kind table that will become an instant family heirloom!  At first glance one thinks this is just an extraordinary end table with a centered drawer that is intriguingly carved on all four sides.  However, pull out on the back apron and the legs extend via a drawer-style mechanism to deepen the stance, so that the top can be flipped open to reveal a round felt playing surface and corners dished out to hold your beverages!  Just before you flip over the top, notice there are two concealed compartments for game pieces, cards and the like, which supplement the facade-mounted drawer on the front side.  Exceptional carvings include stylized foliates and wildflowers, with shells appearing on the shoulders of the gracefully scrolled cabriole legs which are tipped with upturned acanthus plumes and cloven hoof feet.  Because it's carved on all four sides, it can be placed in the middle of the room, unlike the overwhelming majority of flip top game tables which must be placed against the wall due to the unfinished back.
