19th Century Black Forest Hand-Carved Jewelry Box is a true testament to the sculptor that created such a magical work of art!  One immediately notices the pair of love birds on the top, rendered in full three dimensions and designed to appreciate from all angles.  The birds stand atop the lid that hinges on the back side to reveal the top two compartments which, like the compartments immediately below them, swivel out for ease of access.  Below the lower swiveling compartments is yet another compartment for larger items, with all compartments lined in velvet.  The entire exterior, including the back side, are completely carved in lavish Black Forest bas relief and intaglio motifs celebrating natural foliates and florals for a lavish look, and the entire affair is supported by intricately carved scrolled legs.
