19th Century Dutch Neogothic Wall Shelf was designed to be the first thing one encountered upon entering the home!  With a place on top and a couple of shelves perfect for emptying one's pockets, or depositing things like gloves, it also has a slanted shelf space at the bottom to deposit the daily mail.  Richly carved with geometric forms on the entire exterior, it combines decorative appeal with functionality on a diminutive scale.  Each shelf including the slanted lowest shelf has been fully mortised into the side panels, then shimmed into place.  Even the top tier features a finely carved apron and the back panel rendered with intaglio carving, showing an incredible amount of talented craftsmanship even for such a small piece.  An interesting small brass rod also was installed just under the top shelf, upon which "S" hooks would be mounted to hang one's keys, providing even more convenience.  The carved detail must be closely examined to be fully appreciated!
