Location: Dallas
Richly sculpted in the French Renaissance Revival tradition, this set of two antique gilded bronze candlesticks features trailing foliate relief, elaborate pedestal bases, and fanciful winged dragon feet. Their graduated heights create a dramatic and beautifully balanced presentation.
Each candlestick is cast in bronze and finished in warm gilding that has developed a lovely patina over time. Cylindrical standards are wrapped with deeply modeled vines and leaves, framed by decorative collars enriched with acanthus motifs. Broad candle platforms crown the design, while the substantial bases display intricate scrollwork, floral ornamentation, and sculptural feet inspired by Renaissance grotesques.
The differing heights make the candlesticks especially striking when displayed together, allowing the eye to appreciate the exceptional depth of casting and the abundance of hand finished detail. Elegant, historic, and highly decorative, they embody the romantic character of 19th century French metalwork.
