Pair 19th Century French Louis XVI Marble Top Rosewood Nightstands were crafted from the highly desirable imported wood from the Americas that is sometimes called "kingwood" due to its superiority to all other furniture woods.  The neoclassic design of this pair is immediately apparent, which would bring a smile to Louis XVI.  The rectilinear form of the architecture includes very subtle protrusions on each corner which have been followed in the marble tops, and which overlook a brace of carved rosettes which frame the uppermost drawer.  What appears to be a total of six drawers on the front is in reality four drawers with two being a drop down cabinet front that opens to reveal a Carrara marble lined interior.  Each drawer including the "faux" drawers features a tailored molding around the perimeter, with extra molding on the bottom most drawer, with all centered with turned rosewood knobs.  Flanking the drawers are a pair of tapered and fluted columns set in niches on each corner.  Grain-oriented veneer appears on each side separated by tiers of molding detail, with turned feet at the bottom just above another pair of rosettes finishing the design.
