Pair 19th Century Signed Country French Nightstands ~ Cabinets were proudly made by H. Javalet, Ebeniste out of Normandie, and are so stamped on the back!  Ebenistes were considered the foremost artisans of their discipline. Crafted from dense, old-growth French white oak, each was carefully hand-crafted using time-honored techniques such as hand-chamfering and pegged mortise & tenon joints.  Even the drawers boast hand-cut dovetails.  Raised panels appear on three sides, with more rustic panels on the back sides, even though the back sides are still quite visually appealing.  Fine hand-carved detailing abounds, with a gadrooned top edging, reeded fluting down the cornerposts, egg & dart trim around the drawer, an exquisite basket bursting with flowers, and a cluster of ferns, all included in the incredible artistry.  Left hand and right hand cabinet doors open via brass barrel hinges and brass knobs to reveal surprising storage, especially coupled with the full width drawers fitted with brass bale pulls and guards, set upon a beautiful foliate background surrounded by egg & dart trim.  Slightly larger than most, they will make great companions to the bedroom or any seating group!
