Location: Dallas
18th Century Carved Oak Figure of St. Bartholomew is beautifully sculpted and rich with devotional character and quiet presence. The Apostolic figure is most probably St. Bartholomew, shown standing in flowing robes while holding an open book, with deeply carved folds that give the sculpture wonderful depth, shadow, and movement. His contemplative expression, bearded face, and classical drapery reflect the enduring beauty of European ecclesiastical art.
The oak has developed a warm, timeworn patina that enhances the hand-carved detail and gives the piece its soulful historic quality. Modest in scale yet full of presence, this 18th century figure would be a beautiful accent for a bookcase, mantel, writing desk, or curated collection of antique objects.
