19th Century French Hand-Carved Buffet in Stripped Oak from Brittany is an exceptional example of the whimsical decorative arts expressed in furnishings designed to bring smiles to the family members each and every day!  One first notices the two musicians, sculpted in almost their entirety servings as corner posts.  On the left, a type of bagpipe, and on the right, a simple recorder-like horn.  Each figure is set upon a pedestal with upturned acanthus fronds which is in turn atop a boldly molded pediment carved with a square rosette.  In between the rosettes the apron is adorned with a variation of elongated Greek coin.  Above we see two fierce lion's heads, each holding a brass ring, and two finely carved drawers fitted with brass bale pulls.  The unmistakable aspect of this work that makes it definitively from Brittany are the two sculpted door panels, each depicting village celebrations with dancing, music and libations.  Hand-crafted from solid oak, it has been professionally stripped by our expert in-house staff retaining the natural patina and beauty of the old-growth wood.
