19th Century French Renaissance Marble Top Dessert Buffet ~ Server is a remarkable example of the revival of the style that occurred during one of the most interesting periods of French history for furniture aficionados! Rendered from old-growth oak to last for centuries, it features an incredible feat of sculpture, from the intricate pierce-carved crown on top depicting a lion's head surrounded by scrollwork and foliates, flanked by urn finials. Multiple tiers of hand-carved molded detail separate the layers of the design, which includes an upper shelf, a richly veined marble top serving surface, a drawer tier, a cabinet tier, and a lower full width shelf. The upper shelf and cornerposts ~ supports are all carved barley twist columns, providing a framework for the serving area and the detailed sculptures of the fruits of a successful hunt on one side, and a successful fishing trip on the other. The drawers are carved with grapevines in full relief serving as the handles. A boldly carved base molding and bun feet complete the look.
