19th Century French Walnut Henri II Buffet is a refined expression of the Renaissance Revival and in this example combines neoclassical architecture inspired by the ancient Greeks and Romans with embellishments that recall the glory years of Da Vinci and other giants of the 15th and 16th centuries.  A richly veined solid walnut plank top with double beveled edge provides an excellent surface fully two feet deep, and presides over the upper tier defined by a concave form with delineation interrupted by carved corbels on the corners and one between the generously size drawers, each of which is fitted with finely cast brass bale pulls with guards.  A demarcation of bold molding separates the drawer tier from the cabinet tier below, which is defined by intricately turned columns on each corner topped with Ionic capitals, framing the two exquisitely carved door panels separated by a stile with corbel and carved fletching motif.  The elaborate foliate with chimera themes provide a background for each door panel, all surrounding a warrior with a dolphin helmet on the right, and another with a more traditional battle helmet on the left, with each cameo framed in a laurel wreath.  Brass keyguards provide a touch of bling, and when the doors are open, they reveal capacious storage with a single shelf.  Multiple tiers and projecting levels of molding create a base for the piece, supported by bun feet.
