Location: Baton Rouge
Created for the heart of an English country home, this 19th century pine dresser combines generous display with the practical character of traditional kitchen furniture. The open plate rack is arranged with slender shelves beneath a simple molded crown, providing ample space for ironstone, transferware, pewter, or a collection of everyday ceramics.
Below, a stripped pine work surface offers a warm natural contrast to the distressed painted finish. Two drawers retain their wooden knobs, while the open pot board beneath was traditionally used for baskets, crocks, and cooking vessels.
English dressers evolved as indispensable pieces of household furniture, bringing preparation, storage, and display together in one purposeful form. Its wonderfully aged painted surface and honest pine construction give this example an appealing country presence, equally suited to a kitchen, breakfast room, garden room, or casual dining area.
