Exquisite Napoleon III period rosewood commode vanity, beautifully designed with richly figured wood, white Carrara marble, and an elaborate original beveled mirror. The warm tones of the rosewood, crisp marble, and sculptural hand carving create the luxurious appearance associated with fine French furniture of the period.
Rosewood was among the most prized exotic woods used by 19th century French cabinetmakers. Expensive to import and admired for its rich color and distinctive grain, it was reserved for finer furnishings. Its generous use throughout this commode adds considerably to its beauty and rarity today.
Four spacious drawers provide excellent storage, while two secret compartments are cleverly incorporated into the top on either side of the Carrara marble surface. Above, the original beveled oval mirror is framed in rosewood and flanked by magnificent hand carved supports embellished with scrolling foliage, flowers and fruit. Additional carving along the lower apron and corners beautifully completes the design.
With its grand mirror, rare rosewood, Carrara marble, secret compartments and generous storage, this antique commode vanity offers both beauty and function.
